My Photography Journey
Photography has been a major focal point of my life. Originally, I was a music major at my high school, and that was actually what I had been accepted for. Later, when I was a sophomore, around sixteen years old, I had to choose an elective. I wasn’t sure which path to take, and my mom said, ‘Why don’t you take photography? I feel like that would be easy to do. You might enjoy it.”
After that moment, my life changed forever.
My high school photography teacher told me I had a gift and a unique eye compared to the rest of the class. Eventually, she gifted me a secondhand Nikon camera that I never wanted to put down. It was one of those moments that helped shape the direction of my life.
Later, I was accepted into my dream school, the School of Visual Arts. I was drawn to SVA because of its extensive photography program, but I quickly fell in love with the school, the students, the art, and the atmosphere. While street and concert photography remained some of my favorite things to shoot, it was there that I discovered my voice as a portrait photographer and fell even more in love with the art of photography.
Now, as a proud SVA alumni with a BFA in Photography and Video, and at the ripe age of 29 , I finally decided to start my own photography blog. I wanted to create a place where people could experience the world through my eyes and see the beauty I find in even the smallest things… especially since I’m pretty small myself.
My name is Zoe Del Toro, and I can’t wait for you to join me on this crazy new journey.
